The M14 DMR is a USMC infantry rifle in Operation Flashpoint: Red River, and is the default primary weapon for the Scout class.

Origin[]

In the 1990s the Marine Corps decided to introduce a semi-automatic marksman rifle to fill the gap formerly filled by battle rifles in the 1960s and before, in between the shorter-range assault rifle and the longer-range sniper rifle. The Marine Corps decided to retrofit older M14 rifles with several new and varying attachments and modifications from the Marine PWS (Precision Weapons Shop, based in Quantico, Virginia) to turn it into a marksman rifle that could be used either by designated marksman, or by sniper units who would prefer to use a semi-automatic rifle in some situations.

Specifications[]

The M14 DMR is essentially a retrofitted M14 pulled out of storage, and turned into a marksman rifle. The DMR variant features a polymer M14A1-style stock, (differentiated by the pistol grip instead of a sporter-style grip) picatinny rails on the top, sides, and bottom of the stock for mounting sights, bipods and such. The M14 DMR also features an improved muzzle brake over the flash hider found on original M14 rifles. The M14 DMR is often equipped, being a marksman rifle, with a scope. THe M14 DMR also features an additional cheekpiece on the stock to help the shooter properly and more comfortably use the scope. The M14 DMR fires a medium-caliber 7.62mm x 51mm NATO round (known in civilian firearms as the .308 Winchester) from a 20-round box magazine mounted beneath the gun.

Attachments[]

The M14 DMR and M39 EMR, being marksman rifles, cannot use iron sights, red dot sights, or holographic sights. Marksman rifles also do not feature a flashlight like some other USMC guns do.
